Description:
The Brian Bowman Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by family and friends in memory of Specialist Brian Bowman who was a medic in the U.S. Army. While serving in Afghanistan, his unit was attacked by insurgents and Brian was killed as he was giving aid to a wounded soldier. The Brian Bowman Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduates of a Montgomery County High School who will be attending a college or university. Selection is based on scholarship in high school, citizenship, and service to the community. Applicants must show a desire to pursue and achieve a college education.
The Brian Bowman Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide a scholarship toward tuition and fees for a student from a public Montgomery County High School who is enrolled and will attend an accredited two-or four-year public or private institution in the state of Indiana. The scholarship will be awarded for one year only and is not renewable.
Criteria:
- Be a graduate in good standing of a public Montgomery County High School, Montgomery County, Indiana by the end of June of the year in which the application is filed
- Be a resident of Montgomery County, Indiana and have lived in Montgomery County, Indiana for the previous two years
- Be accepted into and attend an accredited two-or four-year public or private college or university in the state of Indiana
- You must be planning to pursue a degree and attend an accredited two or four year public or private institutions of higher learning with a major in a medical-related field. This may include, but is not limited to, nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, biology, and chemistry
- Must have a grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale
- This scholarship is not intended for the student with the highest GPA but rather for the student who along with academic performance demonstrates motivation, character, ability, citizenship and potential
- 21st Century Scholar award winners are NOT eligible for this scholarship
- Must have completed a minimum of seven (7) semesters or ten (10) trimesters by the application deadline to be eligible to apply for the Brian Bowman Scholarship

- In addition to the standard essay questions, be prepared to write an essay (300 word maximum) answering the following: “Why have you selected a medical-related area of study and how will you use your education to give back to your community?” and this question (100 word maximum): “Do you consider yourself a patriot and if so, how can you use your patriotism to make our country better?”
