Board President John Tidd awarded the first Board Community Engagement Grant for 2013! He chose to split the $1,000 award and decided to give Character Counts of Montgomery County a $500 grant for their Foundations for Life essay program.
Character Counts is a program designed to teach character based on these six pillars: Trust, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. The character building exercises and activities, as well as the awards associated with this program, have been invaluable in our schools and workplaces. One tool of this program that is fun and challenging is the Foundations for Life essay. Students are encouraged to reflect upon, express, and commit to enduring truths that will guide them to make ethical and effective choices in life.
