Requirements: Southmont graduate pursuing study in Elementary Education, Financial need
Description:
James Pearson established the Patti J. Pearson Scholarship Fund with the Montgomery County Community Foundation. The scholarship was established as a memorial tribute to Mrs. Pearson’s dedication to and love of teaching elementary children. In 2009 James Pearson’s sons renamed the fund to the James G. and Patti J. Pearson Fund to honor the memory of their father.
The income from the Pearson fund is to be used to provide a scholarship to a Southmont graduate planning to become an elementary teacher. The Pearson Scholarship is for one year only and is not renewable.
Criteria:
- You must be a graduate in good standing from Southmont High School by the end of June in the year that the application is submitted
- You must have completed a minimum of ten (10) trimesters by the application deadline to apply
- You must be planning to pursue a baccalaureate degree with a major in education and a career goal of becoming an elementary school teacher
- You must be planning to attend an accredited public or private college or university
- You must be of good character and attitude
- You must show financial need which may be considered in the final selection
