Description:
The Jerry and Dorothy Servies Vaughn Scholarship Fund was established by Jerry and Dorothy Servies Vaughn, alumni of South Montgomery Schools. Even though the Vaughns have not lived in Montgomery County for many years, they wanted to give back to the students of their home community by providing scholarships to Southmont High School students.
The Vaughn Scholarship Fund provides scholarships towards tuition and fees for a Southmont High School graduate who will attend a college or university in the state of Indiana. The scholarship is awarded to a first year college student for one year only and is not renewable. Academic achievement and financial need are the basis of the scholarship selection.
Criteria:
- Be a graduate in good standing from Southmont High School by the end of June in the year that the application is submitted
- Be planning to attend a public or private college or university in the State of Indiana
- Be a resident of Montgomery County, Indiana, and have lived in Montgomery County, Indiana for the previous two years
- Have achieved a grade point average of 2.70 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- Be ranked in the top one-half of his/her graduating class, but not among the top 10%
- Note: This scholarship is not intended for the student with the highest GPA or rank, but rather for the student with average grades who demonstrates motivation, character, ability, and potential.

- In addition to the standard essay questions, be prepared to answer the following essay question (300 word maximum): "Describe a time when something did not go the way you had anticipated. How did you respond, and what did you learn from this experience?
