Very cold temperatures did not keep people from lining up early outside the Darlington Community Center for the recent Food Finders Mobile Food Pantry Give Away Day. MCCF Board Member, Nancy Sennett, gave her Community Engagement Grant to MUFFY to support two such mobile food pantries. Nancy, as a health care professional, knows that a poor diet leads to poor overall health and she wanted to do something tangible to help the hungry in our community.
Hunger was helped in over 100 households as bags of food, that held a variety of fresh produce and other food items, were filled. The spirit of community was alive and well as many volunteers, including 11 students from the Student Council at Sugar Creek Elementary, lent a helping and caring hand. It was a fulfilling day in many ways, as we watched this grant in action, distributing not only food, but hope to so many. The next Mobile Food Pantry will be November 19 at Rock Point church, 429 W CR 150 S, Crawfordsville.
Board Member, Tony Cosenza, also offered a helping hand as he directed his Community Engagement Grant to our local Red Cross to help aid in storm relief from Hurricane Sandy. Executive Director, Denise Maxwell, said many volunteers have already been deployed to help in their efforts, with many more making plans to do so. Tony has family ties to that area and is relieved that his family is safe; however, he knows that many are struggling in these adverse conditions.
