One of the highlights at our Annual Meeting is the MCCF Volunteer of the Year and Youth Volunteer of the Year awards. Every nominee is worthy and it is always difficult to choose just one and this year was no exception. However, we are delighted and honored to announce that Bill Doemel is the recipient of the 2013 MCCF Volunteer of the Year, and Abby Williams is the 2013 Youth Volunteer of the Year - congratulations!
Bill was nominated for his outstanding, remarkable service to the community through his tremendous efforts to organize and raise support for the Montgomery County Free Clinic, which will provide medical services to the needy in our community. He has planned, organized, supervised and developed the ideas and efforts needed for such a monumental task. Kathy Keck, who wrote his nomination, said this, "His playful sense of humor and unfailing cheerfulness are two qualities that make him a welcome member on any committee. However, his determination, intelligence, passion, and commitment to the cause elevate him above others." Upon receiving the award, Bill said, "I have met amazing people who knock me over every day. It's not due to me, I had little to do with it. We did it (raising the money) because of you." His humbleness touched us all and his award well deserved.
Abby Williams was nominated by Diane Sparks for her work with PEERS. Abby is a senior at North Montgomery High School and has been involved with PEERS since her freshman year. Diane said that she is extremely reliable and always prepared and that her conviction to the principles of PEERS is genuine as she truly desires to help others see the wisdom in avoiding risky behavior. How refreshing to see a young adult with such integrity and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
